The point that this lip balm is a wonder stick which uses the lip’s pH level to intensify the colour and gives a customized hue made me curious to search for the details. I wanted to know what exactly the phenomenon behind causing the colour change is. So, I googled and found that such colour changing lip balms or lipsticks contain a special dye called Red 27 and when this dye gets exposed to moisture causes the change in colour.

Then, I looked at the ingredients list mentioned at the back side of Faces Canada Epic Lips Color Enhancing Lip Balm casing and found that there was no such ingredient. Then again, I googled for the synonyms or another name for Red 27 and found that CI 45410 is the synonym for Red 27 and is present in this lip balm which is responsible for the colour change and is FDA-approved and is considered safe to use in cosmetics. So, the formula when dissolved in waterless base such as waxy lip balm remains colourless and it turns into bright pinkish-red once exposed to moisture.

Technically, Faces Canada Epic Lips Color Enhancing Lip Balm reacts to the individual skin because the skin has a higher pH than the lip balm tube and also has moisture content. However, the lip balm will obviously look different on different skin tones so, the only real difference lies in the skin tones which is just a nature and not any chemistry.

The bullet of the lip balm looks purplish pink in colour. It has a very smooth texture and glides on the lips easily. The lip balm has a mild sweet fragrance that lingers for some time.

Initially,Faces Canada Epic Lips Color Enhancing Lip Balm doesn’t give any colour to the lips. After a few seconds, it imparts a purplish pink hue that I really liked. However, when my sister tried the lip balm, it appeared more reddish on her lips. This may be because of the fact that she has a fair complexion than mine and the colour appeared reddish on her non-pigmented lips.

Efficacy & Staying Power

Faces Canada Epic Lips Color Enhancing Lip Balm is enriched with sweet almond oil and vitamin E and is effective in keeping the lips hydrated and moisturized. It gives a nice sheen to the lips and doesn’t feel heavy or sticky. Lips look healthy, well-nourished with a beautiful pink hue on them.

However, the lip balm stays for 2-3 hours and needs re-application. Like other lip balms, Faces Canada Epic Lips Color Enhancing Lip Balm also cannot survive meals. But one thing that I have noticed is that it leaves a pink stain behind.

Though, I know the story behind this magical wonder stick but still I love to have it in my bag. So, I would definitely recommend buying Faces Canada Epic Lips Color Enhancing Lip Balm.
